The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has unveiled the first phase of a free petrol delivery programme across six Nigerian states, a move that could reshape fuel distribution while easing logistics costs for large scale marketers.
The initiative allows qualified fuel marketers to purchase petrol at the refinery’s existing gantry price of N1,215 per litre, with free delivery and access to a 10 day credit facility.
The programme is part of the refinery’s broader Vision 2030 strategy aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector and supporting Africa’s industrialisation agenda.
The rollout initially covers Lagos, Ogun, Rivers, Kaduna, Delta, and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, with additional states expected to be included in future phases.
The refinery said the new distribution model is designed to improve the movement of petroleum products, reduce transportation costs for marketers, and enhance fuel availability across participating states.
Bulk Buyers to Benefit First
The free delivery programme is currently available only to marketers purchasing a minimum of 250,000 litres per order, making it primarily suitable for large distributors and bulk fuel buyers.
Alongside free transportation, eligible customers will receive a 10 day credit facility, enabling them to take delivery before completing payment. The refinery believes this financing option will improve cash flow for marketers while accelerating product distribution nationwide.
The initiative builds on Dangote Refinery’s recent efforts to increase local fuel supply after resuming petrol sales in naira and expanding production for the domestic market.

Dangote Refinery said the programme aligns with its Vision 2030: Accelerating Africa’s Industrialisation, a long term strategy focused on improving energy security, strengthening supply chains, and supporting industrial growth across Nigeria and the wider African continent.
Reliable access to fuel remains critical for businesses, manufacturers, logistics companies, and transport operators.
By reducing delivery costs and improving product availability, the refinery hopes to create greater efficiency throughout Nigeria’s fuel distribution network.

The Dangote Group also outlined a simplified registration process for businesses interested in becoming authorised petrol distributors.The streamlined process is intended to expand the refinery’s network of approved distributors as domestic fuel supply continues to grow.
Competition in Nigeria’s Fuel Market Intensifies
The announcement comes as competition in Nigeria’s downstream petroleum market continues to increase.
Several private depots have recently reduced diesel and petrol prices in a bid to attract customers, with diesel prices falling to around N958 per litre, slightly below Dangote Refinery’s ex depot price of N960 per litre.
The pricing adjustments highlight intensifying competition among fuel suppliers as market participants respond to Dangote Refinery’s expanding production capacity and growing influence within Nigeria’s energy sector.
Industry observers say initiatives such as free delivery and flexible payment terms could further strengthen the refinery’s position while improving fuel accessibility for businesses and consumers across the country.
