Decarbonize: Nairobi Fashion Week Elevates Global and Local Voice

Nairobi Fashion Week (NFW) returns for its eighth season from January 28 to 31, 2026, positioning sustainability, craftsmanship, and conscious design at the center of Africa’s fashion conversation. Under the theme “Decarbonize,” the platform brings together Kenyan and international designers to explore slow fashion, ethical production, and climate-responsive creativity.

Building on the momentum of Season 7, this edition marks a defining chapter in NFW’s evolution as a hub for thoughtful design and responsible growth. The theme calls on designers, consumers, and industry leaders to rethink how fashion is produced, consumed, and valued, placing durability, circularity, and environmental responsibility at the heart of creative expression.

A Global Runway, Rooted in African Craft

Season 8 will showcase a curated mix of established and emerging designers from Kenya and across the world.

International designers include:

• Naaniya (France)

• Yevana (Sri Lanka)

• Wanni Fuga (Nigeria)

• Bizarre Savage Couture (Germany)

• Aci Nod (USA)

Kenyan designers include:

• Maisha by Nisia

• Studio Lola

• VAST

• Molivian

• A Touch of Kenya

• Kitu Kidzo

Together, the designers represent a spectrum of brand identities united by innovation, heritage, and sustainability.

Maisha by Nisia pioneers upcycled textiles and zero-waste practices.

Studio Lola delivers minimalist tailoring and contemporary silhouettes.

VAST experiments with sculptural, architectural cuts.

Molivian blends artisanal detailing with modern womenswear.

A Touch of Kenya and Kitu Kidzo weave cultural storytelling and local heritage into vibrant designs.

On the global stage, Naaniya fuses heritage textiles with minimalist design, Yevana highlights texture-driven elegance, Wanni Fuga merges bold prints with cultural identity, Bizarre Savage Couture explores avant-garde couture, and Aci Nod champions conceptual, expressive fashion.

More Than a Fashion Week

Across four days, Nairobi Fashion Week will host runway shows, industry panels, and curated retail experiences. Designers will engage directly with audiences in vibrant marketplaces, while thought-leaders and creatives discuss sustainability, innovation, and the future of African fashion.

Here, fashion becomes more than clothing, it becomes dialogue, commerce, and cultural exchange.

A Call to Decarbonize

At the core of the season is a message that extends beyond aesthetics.

“Decarbonize is our way of asking designers and audiences to consider the environmental impact of fashion,” said Brian Kihindas, Creative Director of Nairobi Fashion Week. “It’s about celebrating creativity while being mindful of the planet, rethinking production, embracing circularity, and designing garments that honor both people and the environment.”

From upcycled textiles to climate-smart materials and circular design principles, the collections presented will reflect fashion’s growing responsibility in a changing world.

A Platform That Shapes Careers and Conversations

Over eight seasons, Nairobi Fashion Week has grown from a local showcase into a continental platform connecting African creativity to global audiences. Alumni designers such as Eva Wambutu, Bone (Rwanda), Afrostreet Kollektions, Rialto Fashions, La Oculta, Kipato Unbranded, and Yevana Handmade have used the stage to gain visibility, forge partnerships, and spark conversations around sustainability and identity.

Their journeys illustrate the role NFW continues to play in shaping Africa’s contemporary fashion narrative.

Nairobi’s Rise as a Sustainable Fashion Capital

As global fashion accelerates toward climate-conscious innovation, Nairobi is emerging as a leader in Africa’s green fashion movement. Powered by designers, creative collectives, and an increasingly sustainability-minded consumer base, the city blends cultural authenticity with environmental responsibility and bold design.

Season 8 strengthens this position, reaffirming Nairobi as a center for ethical fashion, innovation, and future-ready creativity.
