Sudha Reddy Stuns at Met Gala 2026 in Manish Malhotra Couture With $15 Million Tanzanite Necklace

Billionaire philanthropist Sudha Reddy delivered one of the most unforgettable luxury fashion moments at the 2026 Met Gala, arriving in a custom Manish Malhotra couture creation and a rare necklace valued at more than $15 million. Her appearance instantly became one of the most searched Met Gala moments online, placing Indian craftsmanship firmly in the global spotlight.

Reddy chose a masterpiece titled The Tree of Life, designed by celebrated Indian couturier Manish Malhotra. The gown blended heritage, symbolism, and high fashion while honoring the rich textile traditions of Hyderabad and Telangana, her home region. Inspired by Kalamkari art, the design celebrated one of India’s oldest storytelling traditions known for hand-painted fabrics, natural dyes, and detailed mythological motifs.

The gown featured a deep royal blue velvet corset with antique gold embroidery flowing across the bodice. It hugged the silhouette before opening into an elegant train that revealed intricate vines, florals, and a grand Tree of Life centerpiece. In addition, the design showcased regional symbols including the Palapitta bird, Jammi Chettu tree, Tangedu flowers, Surya, Chandra, and peacock motifs.

What made the couture piece even more extraordinary was the craftsmanship behind it. More than 90 artisans worked for 3,459 hours to complete the look. They used traditional Indian embroidery techniques such as zardozi, marodi, and resham to create a visually powerful garment. Gold, ivory, red, and blue threadwork elevated the royal blue velvet, while sculptural metallic details in brass, copper, and silver transformed the cape and shoulders into wearable art.

However, the jewelry added another level of luxury. Reddy wore a statement necklace from her personal collection featuring the legendary Queen of Merelani, a 550-carat deep violet-blue Tanzanite sourced from Tanzania’s Merelani Hills. The extraordinary gemstone sat at the center of a floral arrangement of rose-cut diamonds in triangular and pear shapes. Experts valued the necklace at more than $15 million.

She completed the look with a 23-carat yellow diamond ring and a 30-carat rose-cut polki diamond ring, reinforcing her status as one of the night’s most glamorous attendees.

Speaking about the look, Reddy said Hyderabad remains the foundation of her identity and that the ensemble translated her culture into a language that felt both global and personal. She also emphasized that Indian craftsmanship is not trapped in the past but continues to shape the future of global fashion.

Manish Malhotra echoed that sentiment, saying fashion has always been about emotion, memory, and honoring the soul of craftsmanship. Together, the designer and Reddy created a red carpet moment that balanced heritage with modern luxury.

The 2026 Met Gala took place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City under the theme Costume Art with a dress code of Fashion Is Art. Every year, the prestigious event raises millions for the Costume Institute while gathering the world’s most influential celebrities, billionaires, designers, and cultural icons.

With her stunning couture gown, rare Tanzanite necklace, and celebration of Indian artistry, Sudha Reddy did more than attend the Met Gala. She owned one of the biggest fashion moments of the night.
