Afrobeats star Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has surpassed four billion views on YouTube, becoming the first Nigerian and Sub Saharan African artiste to reach the milestone.
The achievement reflects the growing global audience for Nigerian music and the expanding influence of Afrobeats across major digital platforms.
Burna Boy’s four billion YouTube views come from the combined performance of videos published on his official YouTube channel. His music videos have continued to attract audiences across Africa and international markets, strengthening his position as one of Nigeria’s most influential global music exports.
The latest milestone builds on Burna Boy’s earlier YouTube success. In 2021, he reportedly became the first Nigerian artiste to surpass one billion total views on the platform.
His latest achievement also comes as Nigerian artistes continue to dominate global streaming platforms.
According to the latest streaming figures, five Nigerian artistes have recorded at least 10 songs that have surpassed 100 million streams on Spotify across all credits.
Burna Boy leads the group with 23 songs crossing the 100 million stream mark. Wizkid follows with 18 songs, maintaining his position among Nigeria’s most streamed global artistes.
Tems ranks third with 13 songs, while Asake has reached 11 songs above the milestone. Omah Lay completes the group with 10 songs that have surpassed 100 million Spotify streams.
Burna Boy’s lead is particularly notable. His 23 songs place him five ahead of Wizkid and 10 ahead of Tems, highlighting the sustained performance of his catalogue across global streaming audiences.
Asake’s rise to 11 songs also demonstrates the rapid growth of his catalogue, while Omah Lay remains among Nigeria’s leading streaming acts after reaching the 10 song threshold.
Beyond individual records, the figures point to a broader shift in the global music economy. Nigerian artistes are building audiences beyond Africa while turning digital platforms into powerful channels for international visibility, cultural influence and commercial growth.
For Africa’s creative economy, milestones such as Burna Boy’s four billion YouTube views underline the increasing global demand for African music and the commercial potential of intellectual property created on the continent.
Burna Boy’s latest achievement therefore represents more than another streaming record. It reinforces the growing global footprint of Nigerian music and the continued rise of Afrobeats as one of Africa’s strongest cultural exports.
