Former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has entered the media and entertainment industry with the launch of a new production company called Hope and Hard Work.
The company, founded alongside Trudeau’s longtime chief of staff Katie Telford, aims to develop stories designed to bring people together across film, television, audio and live experiences.
According to a statement published on the company’s new website, Hope and Hard Work will focus on creating stories that help audiences see, understand and connect with one another.
The company’s name draws from a phrase Trudeau frequently used in speeches after becoming leader of Canada’s Liberal Party in 2013 and throughout his nine year tenure as prime minister, which lasted from 2015 to 2025.
The launch comes as Toronto hosts the Toronto International Film Festival, which began on Thursday and runs through September 20.
For Trudeau, 54, the move represents a new chapter following his departure from Canada’s highest political office. He announced his decision to step down in January last year after facing pressure from lawmakers concerned about his party’s declining poll numbers ahead of a general election.
He was succeeded as prime minister by fellow Liberal Mark Carney.
Since leaving office, Trudeau has maintained a relatively low public profile. However, he has continued to make selected public appearances, including a speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
His move into entertainment places him among a growing group of former political leaders who have used their public experience and global networks to build ventures in media and storytelling.
Former U.S. President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama took a similar path when they founded Higher Ground Productions in 2018. The production company secured a multi year agreement with Netflix to produce films and television series.
Trudeau’s entry into the sector highlights the expanding opportunities for influential public figures to transition into creative industries, where storytelling, media and global audiences increasingly intersect.
For African entrepreneurs, business leaders and innovators, the development also reflects a broader shift in how public influence can translate into new ventures beyond traditional career paths.
Hope and Hard Work now begins its journey in an industry where content, culture and audience engagement continue to shape the global business landscape.
